Osmington Road, Margaret River
5 kilometres east of the Osmington and Jindong Treeton cross roads.
St John’s Church is a charming and rustic Group Settlement Church. An unexpected gift of £100.00 from Church of England associates in England in the 1920s enabled the Group Settlers to consider building their place of worship.
The Church was then built by locals Mr H H (Charlie) Williams and his 16yr old son Chas.
The first service was held on 27th December 1933 and the church dedicated to St. John the Evangelist by Bishop Wilson on 2nd February 1934.
A memorial has been erected on the property commemorating the early settlers in the Osmington district. We would appreciate knowing whether your family is connected with those indomitable pioneers.
When in Margaret River enjoy a drive along Osmington Road which twists up the Margaret River Valley. It’s an area of great historical significance to Margaret River. We would love to meet you at one of our services but if the time doesn’t suit just come, view and enjoy the undulating countryside. Listen to the varied bird calls as you visit our Church.
We hold services in the Church at 11.30am on the second Sunday of the month. Special services are arranged on the major festivals of the Christian Calendar as well as occasional services as required including Baptisms and Marriages.
(Perhaps the settlement district of Osmington is named after Osmington in Dorset?)
